If you are interested in walking with a friendly and organised group and would like to give it a try and join us then read on.
Firstly you are allowed up to 4 walks with us to see if you would like to join. After that we ask you to join the Ramblers Association. (2022 memberships start from £27 concessionary to £38.50 individual under 65)
The first thing to consider is how fit you are, and what type of walk would suit you to start with.
To help in deciding we suggest you click HERE for the Grades of Walk page . But dont be concerned if you are a beginner and feel 5 or 6 miles is too much as we do have breaks to take in the views and take a rest when necessary. Plus we take a short tea break and a longer lunch one so it's not all done in one go. So as you can see it's not too daunting.
If you are fitter and think the hillier walks are your thing then the same applies.
The next thing is to check HERE for This Weeks Walk page where you can get a description of the weekend walk which can help you decide if its for you. To check on future walks you can click HERE to check our Current Programme for future walks and grading.
If you decide on a walk that seems suitable then the first thing to do is contact the walk leader (contact details should be on the This Weeks Walk Page) then you need to turn up at the car park of East Ayrshire Council Offices, London Road Kilmarnock (NB The old James Hamilton Academy) at the stated time and introduce yourself to someone who will introduce you to the walk leader. But please bear in mind it's important to have suitable footwear ie. boots or walking shoes, plus suitable clothing to keep you warm and dry as we can be out in open countryside for several hours, and the weather can change quickly. Also bring some food and drink to last the walk.
As a safety precaution Leaders Have The Right To Refuse any person who, in their opinion, is not properly equipped for the elements.
Walkers must co-operate with the leader and stay within sight and earshot of the group. Walkers must not leave the group without informing the leader. Anyone doing so automatically excludes themselves from any liability by the leader, the group and the Ramblers Association.
A first aid kit is carried by the leader.
You can walk with us up to 4 times to see if it's for you before we ask that you officially join the Ramblers. Joining entitles you to walk with any official Ramblers groups in the UK. We have 3 groups within the Southwest of Scotland.
